Maximise your Moments!

There are certain significant moments in life that determine the direction you will head. In fact, you have already had some of these moments. Think back to a time when you had to make a decision that changed your life forever. Here are some that have redefined my core life-structures and overall status of my journey: who to marry, which university to attend, whether to continue to pursue medicine, whether to have a child or not. Each of these choices, if chosen differently, would have drastically shifted my current reality. I am very happy to say that I do not regret any of the above choices I’ve made; even if at the time, the situation was not clear.

Sometimes in the winds of change, we find our true direction...

So how do we become aware of these moments, as some are more recognisable than others? More importantly, how do we maximise them? These specific periods are vital opportunities for a life-shift; hence it is imperative we know the choices we are making are for the better.

Recognising these moments requires clarity of intention and thought. Its clearing what one of my clients calls ‘the fog,’ where you cannot see, think or feel due to past/current issues that have not been dealt with.

A lot of us think we have put things behind us but just as cutting off a branch of a tree wont kill the tree, so dealing with issues on the surface level will not resolve them.

The issues will go away temporarily but will resurface. More interestingly is that fear-based issues have a way of feeding off other fear-based energies. So they do not not pile up, they exponentially grow. We must start removing the fog from our lives and when we do, we can more easily recognise the moments and take full advantage of them.

Clearing the fog also allows us to see what is ahead of us and prepare accordingly. The best way to prepare for the (unknown) future is to focus on the present moment. Holistic personal development is a transformative process, it does not happened overnight. It takes dedication and a definiteness of purpose. So regardless of your current situation, there should always be an undertone of personal development. This development, over time, becomes part of your character and serves as the foundation for your view on life. Hence, your decisions will be based on where you want to go. Because you are sure of your direction, you know how to set your sail so the winds of change can take you where you need to go.

Let me leave you with a lesson I learnt from my new favourite superhero: Deadpool. In his recent (and ridiculously funny) film, Deadpool is about to harm his main enemy when Colossus from X-men breaks into a long speech about being a hero. He tells the excessively violent Deadpool that you don't wake up and sleep a hero: its not a 24/7 thing. It is determined by 5 or 6 moments in your life, where an often hard choice must be made. Its these moments that make a hero! Colossus is right, there are key moments in your life where you have to buckle down and decide on something. Make sure you head and heart are clear for those decisions to be maximised

So start clearing the fog, dig deep and begin your inner transformative process of personal development. When you do, the decisive moments will be more easily identifiable and the choices to make more clearly distinct. And remember, things may have a new perspective, on a different day...
